Zelda (The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword)
Worn For: Anime Boston 2012 (Friday), AnimeNEXT 2012 (Saturday), New York Comic Con 2012 (Friday), The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Godesses (August 10, 2013, Newark NJ)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been my favorite video game ever since it came out when I was still in elementary school and we got Nintendo 64 for Christmas. From there, Zelda grew to be my favorite video game franchise and I always wanted to dress up as the title character (or any number of other characters from the games). But Zelda's costumes seemed out of reach, what with her armor and intricacies... then I got Skyward Sword and fell in love with the game's incarnation of Zelda pretty much the first moment she appeared on screen. Suddenly there seemed to be a Zelda costume in reach for a version I loved. Christmas came and I got together with my friend Han Pan and we started talking Zelda and cosplay, and by the end of that conversation she was making the costume for me. <3
Stuff by Shelling made my harp (which plays a little snippet of "Ballad of the Goddess"!) and Eri did my original wig. Han Pan made the costume, and one of my little dreams came true. <3 For AnimeNEXT 2012 the costume was completed with a new belt by Han Pan and a new wig that was a group effort between Eri, Shelling, and myself.
